Circle of Creative Women

Invitation:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

— W.B. Yeats, The Second Coming

We are no longer living in reasonable times.

We’ve seen this pattern before. Hitler didn’t just wake up one morning and start rounding up Jews. He started by vilifying immigrants, closing the borders – claiming that they were all criminals. (Sound familiar?)

This is about desensitizing the American people to the sight of human beings held – concentrated – in camps. It’s about repeating, over and over, until it becomes acceptable, that immigrants, gays, Mexicans, are “animals” – less than human. We are being groomed to accept ethnic cleansing.

Today, I call the Circle.

Each of us has our skills, our talents, our gifts. Some of us craft words that move the human spirit. Some wield brushes like magic wands. Others dance or sing, or create beauty in other ways.

We are gathering, we who are prepared to give language to the unspeakable, image to the faceless, and to stand as the mothers of a nation.

We will gather – as women have done since the beginning of time – in sacred Circle around the fire, connected across time and space with each other and with those who have gone before us.

Logistical Details

When: June 30, 4:00 Central Time.

Where: We will gather around a virtual campfire, via Zoom technology. If there are enough of us locally, in the Chicago suburbs, we can gather in person too!

What
: Red Thread Circle around the theme of our role as women artists, writers, and creatives in standing against the horrors of our time. When we have all been witnessed, we will share ideas for combining our strengths to affect change.

I’ve saved you a space – will you come?
